Meet Rachel

With the support of Browns, Rachel was able to secure safe housing after a history of sexual abuse and harassment.

At 32 years old Rachel had been a victim of sexual abuse and harassment at the hands of their partner.

The issues they were facing:

She had also previously been raped by an ex-partner and was being stalked by another ex-partner. The housing association and the local authority had declined to move her on the basis there was no evidence to suggest that her current tormentor was the perpetrator of the rape. As a result Rachel’s mental health was suffering, as was her employment.

Rachel came to Browns and was supported with:

• Gaining access to the sanctuary scheme.
• Collating evidence of abuse that spanned from housing repairs to police incident reports
• Engaging with the investigating police offer, who then provided a supporting letter for Rachels case.
• Contacting the safeguarding lead at the housing association, outlining their duty of care to tenants.

The future is safer for Rachel

As a result of this support Rachel’s managed move application appeal was successful and she moved out of the area into safe accommodation that was much better suited to her needs. Rachel was then able to resume work and engage successfully with therapeutic interventions put in place.
