We are always on the look-out for new volunteers to help us deliver our services across Surrey. Volunteering is an excellent way to make a difference in the local community and develop skills and experience at the same time.


We welcome applications from individuals with a criminal record. Applications from ex-offenders will be judged on their own merit and any criteria relating to the job specification.

Advice and Support Mentor

Our mentors work with clients to provide one-to-one practical and emotional support. Mentors meet with clients for at least one hour a week to set achievable goals and discuss the ways their client can work towards them. Strong interpersonal skills are essential for this role. Volunteers will also need to have their own access to a car to undertake this role.

As a mentor you will receive an induction to Browns CS and our work practices, as well as training sessions and support throughout the year.

Bid Writer

We are looking for a bid writer to assist the Managing Director in securing funding for our range of services. The role includes writing, editing and proofing funding bids; researching local and national funding opportunities suitable to Browns CS’s work; maintaining and updating our statistical and qualitative data information relevant to bid applications.


This role can be carried out from home and is flexible around the volunteer’s other commitments.

Volunteer to support 4Es to Employment Course

We are looking for inspirational and dynamic individuals who come from an HR / Management background, who are used to undertaking the recruitment of staff/interviewing and willing to share this knowledge and give feedback to the attendees of the 4Es to employment course. Help build confidence & self-esteem and support them into training, volunteering, work placements or education.

The main tasks involved in this role are: support the delivery of Browns Community Services 4Es to employment course to small groups of groups of candidates; support clients on 1:1 by producing a tailored individual CV’s and cover letters; support clients to filling out application forms; update records of clients attending the course and their progression and outcomes and mentor and support participants on a regular basis to ensure their progress over the course.

You should have excellent interpersonal and communication skills, be reliable and commit to the course dates, be approachable, friendly, professional and non-judgmental. You will have an ability to establish and maintain professional boundaries and an understanding or willingness to learn about homelessness and barriers to social inclusion. You will be an enthusiast in contributing to a positive environment supporting vulnerable people. You will be expected to adhere to organisational policies and procedures, including attending training and supervision sessions.

If you are successful with your application to this role you will be given a 2-day induction into the role, together with on-going training, supervision, and support. You will have the opportunity to meet with our other volunteers, and after successfully volunteering for 6 months we will be able to provide you with references for future job applications.

The courses start in September.

 

Due to the nature of the role, an enhanced DBS check and references are required.
