Meet Daisy

Working with Browns, Daisy was able to achieve being debt free by being empowered by her support worker who helped with identifying all debts and explaining options to address these.

Daisy is age 33 and lives in Windsor in permanent accommodation. She lives alone with her pet dog and has mental health struggles and history of addiction.  Daisy was referred to Browns from probation given her vulnerabilities and wanted to become debt free.
The issues they were facing:

Daisy was at the start of her new tenancy and wanted to tackle her outstanding debts to prevent them having a greater impact on her current household. She was getting increasingly worried with creditors calling her and scared of bailiffs knocking on her door. It was a challenge for Daisy to begin the process as she did not understand her options, the online process or where to begin and she often became overwhelmed, anxious and confused. Daisy’s probation worker was unable to provide this support so needed to refer Daisy to a service that could offer intensive, regular support to help her manage the situation. So she was referred to Browns.

The Browns Intensive Support Service Team were able to;
  • Build a rapport and solid working relationship with the Daisy
  • Confirming how much and where the debt was
  •  Make an application online for a debt relief order to become debt free.
  • Support worker and Daisy working together to gather information and input into the online system.
  • Daisy was explained the process, and kept informed of each step to make sure she understood everything and did not become anxious.
Daisy is now in control

Daisy was enabled to understand the application process and therefore felt less anxious about the process. In fact, she felt like she was finally in control and could breathe again. The unmanageable debt was removed, meaning she was no longer feeling harassed by creditors. The fresh start motivated her to revisit budgeting skills with her support worker and she felt empowered to manage her bills and stay on top of her financial commitments.

“I have tried to manage this on my own but am unsure of where to start”.
